Walking into her Public Relations class, senior Emi Feldman’s knee-high leather riding boots are heard clicking from across the room. “It’s ALL about the riding boots this season,” Emi gushes as she shows off her new purchase. She is wearing a striped sweater dress paired with leather boots, a high bun, and a matching tote. Emi’s style portrays a mix of preppy and classic style. She explains, “I like to think I kind of pull off a little Audrey Hepburn in the 21st century.”
As an intern at CBS in New York City, Emi was introduced to a clothing store next door, “I honestly love and am really into TJ Maxx right now!” Emi hesitantly explains, “My friend got me into it when she told me to check it out. I don’t know what was holding me back before!” Reading fashion magazines and keeping up with the current styles, she used to look down on stores like TJ Maxx as stores with “leftover styles.” But now she sees TJ Maxx as a fashion lover’s hidden secret where you can acquire multiple looks for so much less.
Separating her time being both a student and an intern, it’s important to Emi to dress professionally, and she takes pride in doing so. “When I’m dressed professionally, my mood is completely different and I find myself being more motivated and confident,” Emi says, “I like to look business casual all the time.” Navy, gray, and maroon are the colors she gravitates to while putting together a look. The simplicity in those colors, she claims, makes it easy for her to find a look that she knows will be both classy and professional. It’s all about the Audrey Hepburn classic look and Emi confesses that if she could, she would steal Blair Waldorf’s closet, “I wish I could just have all of Blair’s clothes! That would be so perfect! Actually, can I just be Blair?”
