In April, the U.S Department of Health and Human Services released their annual rankings of hospitals based on patient experiences. Patients weigh in on their overall experience from a scale from 1 to 10 and whether or not they would recommend the hospital to others.

Between Long Island and New York City Hospitals, St. Joseph Hospital in Bethpage increased its ranking the most from 2015 to 2016. Regarding patient ratings, Plainview Hospital had the most significant drop, with a 4 point decrease, while Franklin Hospital declined the most in recommendations.
In addition to patient rankings, hospitals also get graded by The Leapfrog Group, a health quality organization, who release a bi-annual nation safety report. The report focuses on improving health care quality and safety by assigning grades from A to F, based on daily practices from hand washing policies to preventable deaths.

From Leapfrog’s latest report, St. Francis Hospital, in Flower Hill, is one of the few “A” ranked hospitals in New York, earning its 10th “A” rating since the report’s debut in 2012.
“We are honored to once again be part of a select group of hospitals to receive an ‘A’ and to have earned this longstanding distinction since the nationwide safety score’s inception,” said Ruth E. Hennessey, EVP & Chief Administrative Officer of St. Francis in a published press release from the hospital. “This achievement reflects the dedication, compassion, and commitment of our highly skilled healthcare team to provide the very best in patient care.”
According to The Leapfrog Group, nationally, 844 hospitals earned an A; 658, a B; 954, a C; 157, a D; and 20, an F.
